O’neill Hyperfreak Hood: REVIEW

I recently picked up an O’neill Hyperfreak Hood to keep my head warm and to combat surfers ear. oneill-hyperfreak-3mm-coldwater-hood-black

Overall the hood is pretty good! It is 1.5mm thick, with an adjustable part around your face to keep water out. Unfortunately the length leaves more to be desired. I was hoping it would have been long enough to be sealed under the neck of my wetsuit, but with the turning and twisting of my head, it managed to weasel its way out from under!

Which basically let all the water into my suit!

I can’t complain too much about it though, it did keep my head warm, so much that I had to take it off and let my head cool down. It was nice being able to just slip it down around my neck and when I needed it again I was able to slide it right back up. It wasn’t too tight around my neck where I felt like I was choking.

This is the first hood I’ve ever worn, and it took some getting use to the loss of hearing, and how everything had kind of an echo sound to it. All in all, I would recommend looking for a hood with a much longer neck, if keeping it tucked into your wetsuit was something you’re interested in doing. This hood isn’t great, but it does get the job done! You can buy one HERE
